Monday, lunch, crowded parking lot, interesting looking resto. We strolled in and like many faily owned restaurants, it's a warm welcoming. Ok, now about the food. the server said they are famous for the best crab cakes. Being from Baltimore, i gave her the look of disbelief. But... I was intrigued. Was it amazing? Was all the hype for real? Can it battle for best crabcakes? Damn! Damn Damn they were good. whoooooooeeeee! Sorry B'more, this place go some kicking crabcake recipe. Man oh man, after my first bite, i was blown away. it was slightly crispy on the outside, and the crab lump was juicy, tender, creamy and lacked filler. Get yourself one. Slow the fork down and enjoy each bite.
the sie of cheesy grits was amazing too. Get a double or a tripel order of this stellar combo. it's a 1-2-3, TKO, knockout combo. Boom Boom. do it. eat it. -

The famous crab cakes lived up to their reputation. The group traveling today with had a special modified selection but also included fried or grilled shrimp and gumbos. The French fries that accompanied my order were crispy and hot. Good spot for lunch. Now another place on my list if traveling in the area.

I don't wish to leave this excellent restaurant with what would seem a bad review, so I'm editing.
Regarding the crawfish bisque; if you want to try it, I suggest you ask for a tiny "taste" sample first. If there is too much salt, it should be very easy to tell. This dish can be wonderful here, if not over-salted.
Otherwise, the "crab & corn bisque", sauteed crab meat, crab cakes, stuffed or fried shrimp, steaks, & gumbo are all very good.

Drove in from Texas just to eat here. Ok, so that's mostly true. Was visiting home on the way to Florida and picked St. John for a birthday dinner based on its reputation. Was AWESOME! Barbara took our phone reservation and was very friendly. Arrived and we were treated like family from the moment we entered until the moment we left. Excellent service!
We were 10 and ordered a big variety of entrees. Everything was great! The alligator uses the jaw/neck meat which is the best meat. It was large, juicy and tender. Most places opt for tail meat which is tough and chewy. Hands down the best fried alligator meat I have ever had. The frog legs- reminded me of the best fried chicken batter I ever had. Best frog legs I have ever had. From steaks to seafood, the folks here pay attention to quality. You cannot go wrong visiting this place. We'll be back for sure!!!! -

Wife and I tried lunch on a Friday. PHENOMENAL service and the BEST crab cakes we've ever eaten! I'm born and raised in SW LA and have eaten at many of our excellent restaurants, but rarely have I been this impressed with quality and quantity of food served. This our our new favorite "go to"! Well worth the drive!!! If we could give St. John's a 6 star rating, we would!
